Cappy (is) the Man.

My students and I had the good fortune to have my good friend and very talented photojournalist Christopher Capozziello (affectionally called “Cappy”) come visit and share his work.

Cappy is a modest, kind, and humble man with a vision and ability to capture and communicate story telling moments. I firmly believe that even though Chris went to school for photography what he is able to do with a camera is innately his own.

He regularly shoots as a freelancer for the New York Times, has had his work published in many national magazines such as Time and Newsweek, and has won numerous photojournalism awards.

He has spent the last several years working on several documentary projects including the modern day KKK, breast cancer, and his newest project, his brother living with cerebral palsy.

His visit was an inspiration to my students, myself and a reminder to me of the importance of photojournalism and the difference images can make.

Please check out his website: www.chriscappy.com to see his visually compelling work.

And watch his multimedia piece on his current project about his brother living with cerebral palsy.

Cappy rocks. He’s inspired me since I met him. I’m honored to call him ‘friend’ and love watching his style and confidence develop. I want to be Chris Capozziello when I grow up!

Thanks, Chris, for staying true to your heart and calling. Your sacrifices to tell stories don’t go unnoticed.
