Mills College in Oakland hired me to photograph an admissions program where they invite high school seniors to visit and stay the night on the campus and get a closer look at the school’s programs and offerings. It was a very well attended event and it was fun to see and photograph potential Mills students.
I have been able to do some of the photography for the Mills College viewbook, website and marketing department over the last couple of years and being a small school I wonder if next year I will be able to photograph some of these same young women as current Mills students!
For an all women’s college (undergrad at least) I have had quite a bit of connection to it for many years now. In high school I lived a few blocks away and would try play on to the tennis courts. I then knew one of the security guard who is now a Captain in the Oakland Police Department. (I never did get to take one of his “tours” around the backroads of the school.) I am good friends with the academic dean and the cross country/track coach. And now I get to be one of their photographers!
