NEVER LEFTI first met Willi Maier when I was looking for a repair shop for my film cameras. I became instantly intrigued by his space, process, and kind disposition. His patience and level of care for his craft was so evident. After many years and many other cameras brought in I asked if I could interview him and hear his story. He agreed and gave me some of his time during the few hours he spent every Saturday morning in the basement at Adolph Gasser’s camera shop in San Francisco.Gasser’s has since closed and I’ve lost touch with Willi but the love of these mechanical instruments will always be something I will treasure along with the time I got to spend in his shop.
